Looking at the RX 7800 XTs results it fairs extremely well against the RX 4070 in most tests. As soon as you enable Ray tracing the gap widens in Nvidia’s favor and DLSS is still highly in the lead until we can get more titles that have FSR 3 enabled. We will be testing those as they are released.

Conclusion
Overall, I’m thrilled with the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT at 1440p. They both exhibit remarkable performance. The market needs competition and this is a fantastic offering for gamers who do not care about rasterization. Nvidia still squarely leads the race in that effort but FSR 3 looks to close the gap for gamers who love upscaling, myself included.
While the pricing is competitive, there’s a hopeful sign that AMD’s pricing might lead to some refreshing changes in the market. I hope Nvidia takes note and lowers the pricing of their offering to be in more line with gamer’s expectations.
With the RX 7700 XT priced at $449, Nvidia has already made adjustments to the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB model which is a healthy sign for a market that has seen a major bounce away from crypto mining and we recover from shortages.
It would have been a delightful surprise if AMD had matched or even undercut the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB pricing. On the brighter side, the RX 7800 XT at $499 does outshine the $599 RTX 4070, hinting at potential market adjustments from Nvidia if the pressure is tight enough.
It’s exciting to preview the commendable RX 6800 XT, which holds its ground at 1440p, even when compared to the latest RTX 4070 and RX 7800 XT years later. We will be looking at a larger comparison of these cards soon to show what the market holds for AMD’s older offerings as we are still testing. Be on the lookout for our follow-up.
If you already have a Radeon 6000 or GeForce 30-series GPU we struggle to recommend upgrading to this new generation of GPUs but they are easily the best 1440p options available currently for the sub $500 market.
However, we have to note that Nvidia’s powerful arsenal of DLSS 3, Reflex, and Broadcast holds a strong place in the market that might be worth the premium. AMD’s great Hypr-RX toggle can automatically turn on their own competing technologies like FSR, Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Boost, and other image processing techniques within AMD’s software for gamers.
The landscape is evolving, and I’m optimistic about the next wave of offerings from Nvidia and AMD. Both may bring us closer to achieving great 1440p gaming at an even more approachable price. FSR 3 and DLSS 3 are major wins for gamers on a budget and even those who like the look of raw performance should give the technology a second chance. It’s often amazing what they can do for titles.
Exciting news as this review is posted! AMD’s RX 7700 XT is now available at $449. The RX 7800 XT also makes its debut today, priced at $499. As a cherry on top, both cards come with a complimentary copy of Starfield, we just hope FSR 3 comes to the game shortly.
Happy Gaming!
