AT GDC today, Nvidia just officially unveiled their new SHIELD, the world’s first Android TV console to deliver video at up to 4K resolution, music, apps and console-quality games in a compact living room entertainment device. Built on Android TV and powered by Nvidia’s ultra-powerful Tegra X1 processor, the SHIELD console streams top-quality 4K video content and enables amazing native and streaming gameplay at 1080p resolution/60fps.
SHIELD provides complete access to Android TV’s rich app and games. At launch, hundreds of Android game titles will be available, including more than 50 of which are optimized specifically SHIELD. Many more AAA games are in development including: Crysis 3, Doom 3: BFG Edition, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!
SHIELD is also the starting point for Nvidia’s GRID game-streaming service, and comes pre-packaged with NVIDIA’s console-grade controller. A GRID subscription will provide instant access to 50 game titles such as Batman: Arkham Origins, GRID 2, and Metro: Last Night Redux, with additional titles being added each week.
NVIDIA SHIELD will be available for $199 starting in May. Optional accessories include a remote control, additional controllers and a vertical stand.
