Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset Review

Alienware has been a staple in the gaming scene making everything from some of the best Monitors we have ever used to peripherals and headphones. The Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset is a new release that delivers a premium audio experience tailored for both hardcore gamers and casual users with some great features that everyone will love, it has some amazing promise and potential on paper. With its sleek design, solid performance, and versatile features, this headset balances form and function exceptionally well. Let’s break it down across key categories.

Design & Comfort – 8/10

Alienware has veered from its traditionally bold gamer aesthetics, opting for a sleek and understated design. Available in “Lunar Light” (white) and “Dark Side of the Moon” (black), the Alienware Pro looks just as fitting in a boardroom as in a gaming setup. While it doesn’t break the mold or standout against other headsets the design is functional and great.

However, we do not care much for flash and instead look for a key area in a headset which is comfort and useability. The leatherette memory foam earcups and headband ensure comfort during extended sessions but they were not as comfortable as even our previous Alienware headset the Alienware AW720H. At this price range we expect the best comfort possible and it could be better here even if it is in the higher tier of comfort.

The headset feels lightweight at 315g, and its tight yet gentle fit prevents fatigue. The headband is great and the controls are easy to feel for and get used to handling. However, the lack of hinges for folding the earcups and no protective case hurts portability, making it best suited for home or office use. For some, the lack of folding is a huge issue, I like to take breaks in audio and rest my headset on my neck but instead I have to always put it on a stand. Surely a minor issue for many, but we wanted to make sure to note this. Overall, the Alienware Pro Wireless headset is a great package and one of the best releases Alienware has made.

Sound Quality – 9/10

The 50mm graphene-coated drivers deliver balanced audio with a wide frequency range (20Hz-40kHz). The bass is rich but not overpowering, while mids and highs are crisp and clear. Positional audio is accurate enough for competitive gaming, enhancing your awareness of in-game surroundings and its included Dolby Atmos upgrade on PC makes it sound incredible.

Music playback also impresses, with notable clarity across genres. I like to listen to everything from pop to country to indie and I found this to be on the best headsets I have ever used for audio listening at this price range. That said, the bass could use more punch, and high-pitched sounds can become slightly harsh at max volume. I never cared much for bass but this could be a deal breaker for some.

Gaming audio was great and directional control and sound is not studio quality but was fantastic. We tested this with several games including Destiny 2, Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Stalker 2, and more and the experience was simply incredible. Active noise cancelling and transparency are hard to find in a gaming headset weirdly and with this on, with Dolby, and surround sound the audio was so balanced and enjoyable this has quickly risen to one of our favorite headsets – ever.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) – 8.5/10

The Alienware Pro excels at reducing low-frequency ambient noise, such as engine hums or air conditioning. I have an office fan that has a consistent and annoying low hum (I promise I will fix it soon) and this easily removes it so I can get immersed into my game or movie. Transparency mode lets external sounds flow in for better situational awareness, but high-pitched noises may pierce through even with ANC enabled. Passive noise isolation from the earcup design further supports an immersive listening experience.

The headset comes with three modes for ANC: ON, Off, and transparency mode. The microphone is optional and Alienware says it has AI to help with noise cancellation to just ensure only your voice is picked up. I have a 3 year old who will randomly run in the room screaming or making noise during meetings at work and when this occurred I naturally apologized but my coworkers said they could hear no audio so this worked amazingly well in my tests. However, the microphone audio itself is not indicative of this price point and my friend group in discord almost immediately asked why I had worse audio than the day before. I switched back to my standalone $50ish dollar Fifine Microphone and everyone I spoke to agreed the raw audio was far superior, even if it meant losing the AI noise cancellation bonus. This means my loud mechanical keyboard or background noise or the annoying hum of my fan could be slightly heard in some cases, so I would struggle to say this microphone is terrible to the point I would not recommend it. It was good enough and worked amazing to cancel any extra audio, it just could not compete with a dedicated microphone.

The only other downside here is the software from Alienware as a whole. I have a keyboard, mouse, and two ultrawide monitors from Alienware so I have used this software for quite some time and can confidently say it needs to be better. Comparing this to something like Corsair or Steelseries and the “Alienware Command Center” is severely lacking in a software I want to use and run all the time on my PC. It is extremely basic and once I enabled Dolby Atmos and its basic audio profiles I never had a reason to run it again. I wish it had more base level control over the headset and this needs to be updated as soon as possible to complete the package.

Connectivity – 8/10

The Alienware Pro offers versatile connectivity options:

  • 2.4GHz wireless via a USB-C dongle (with USB-A adapter included).
  • Bluetooth 5.3 for mobile devices.
  • Wired USB-C connection for lossless audio.
  • 1. PC via USB-C wireless dongle, Bluetooth, and USB
    2. PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 via USB-C wireless dongle
    3. Nintendo Switch via Bluetooth
    4. Mobile via Bluetooth

Switching between devices is seamless, though there’s no Xbox support, which limits compatibility for some gamers.

Battery Life – 10/10

The battery life is a standout feature:

  • 75 hours (Bluetooth, ANC off).
  • 70 hours (2.4GHz, ANC off).
  • 35-40 hours (ANC on).

A 15-minute fast charge provides up to 8 hours of playback, making it a reliable choice for long gaming sessions and workdays. This alone is a crucial feature for us in a modern headset and it works well. Lasting over 75 hours for almost our entire work week and gaming sessions was amazing. Couple this with the lighweight design and it was a great package to enjoy. In our testing, we typically had ANC on at all times and the headset would last around 35 hours on average matching its specs.

Turning ANC off is very easy and nearly doubles your battery so this is a killer feature and something that should be expected at this range. I remember being so frustrated with our Corsair HS80 headset that would last just under 15-20 hours with RGB and almost immediately seeking an upgrade for it so I could have longer charge times.

Microphone – 8.0/10

The detachable boom mic offers mid-range voice clarity, suitable for gaming, calls, and meetings. AI noise cancellation minimizes background noise effectively, though the mic’s flexible stem can feel a bit loose. A built-in LED mute indicator is a thoughtful touch. As mentioned earlier, this optional microphone should and could have been much better and if this is a critical feature for you then you may need to continue looking if you want studio quality or a higher tier.

At this price range, with its features and design this was a missed opportunity to knock this out of the park. However, with its AI microphone noise cancellation this is also a core feature of the headset and a worked incredibly well. The microphone is easily manipulated and in a comfortable position and it easily removes and attaches with minimal force. Again, we wish there was more control over this microphone in the Alienware Command center to possibly boost and control its default state.

Value – 7.5/10

At $229.99, the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset sits in the premium segment. While it lacks some advanced features of pricier headsets, it offers an excellent balance of sound quality, comfort, and functionality. It’s a fair investment for gamers and professionals looking for versatility.

This is a high price and there are many very popular headsets in the mid-range at a lower entry cost. Even if they lack the design and core elements found here, many gamers may just want the core experience and miss out on the extras for the increased entry cost. Alienware does its best to justify this cost with the premium build materials, battery life, comfort, AI microphone noise cancellation, ANC, and its great sound quality.

The Xbox is not mentioned as a compatible console for this headset and this leaves out a large amount of gamers as well

Verdict

The Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset strikes a balance between comfort, sound quality, and features, making it a great choice for gamers and professionals alike. While portability and software customizations leave room for improvement, its long battery life, excellent ANC, and stylish design make it a reliable, high-quality option for all-day use. If you’re looking for a versatile, premium gaming headset, the Alienware Pro is worth considering.

It Microphone and software could be vastly improved and leave much to be desired when you consider its price point of $229.99. This quickly became our primary headset, replacing our old Alienware AW720, the Corsair HS80, the SteelSeries Arctis 7, and many more in our inventory. At 70 hours of battery and its overall comfort level this is an easy recommendation and a must buy should it ever appear on sale in the future.

Happy Gaming!
