Bungie Unveils Expansive New Content Slate, Including “The Edge of Fate” and Star Wars-Inspired “Renegades” Expansion
In a major reveal that sets the stage for the next phase of Destiny 2, Bungie has officially announced The Fate Saga—a multiyear narrative arc launching with the upcoming Year of Prophecy. The announcement introduces a sweeping lineup of expansions and core game updates that promise to redefine the Destiny experience for veterans and newcomers alike.

A New Chapter Begins: The Edge of Fate
Kicking off the saga is Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, slated to release on July 15, 2025. Set on the mysterious destination of Kepler, this expansion plunges players into a realm of ancient secrets powered by dark matter energy. The Nine—enigmatic entities known to long-time players—return to the spotlight, with Guardians uncovering one of the universe’s oldest mysteries.
New characters like Lodi, a powerful ally from afar, and Ikora Rey, the Warlock Vanguard, will guide players through this bold new frontier. Gameplay innovations include:
- Matterspark, a transformative ability channeling dark matter for dynamic traversal and combat
- The Relocator Cannon, enabling teleportation through Fallen tech
- Mattermorph, a dark matter + Strand ability allowing environment manipulation

Players can choose between multiple preorder editions:

Renegades: A Star Wars-Inspired Destiny Expansion
Launching December 2, 2025, Destiny 2: Renegades will take a bold creative leap with direct inspiration from the Star Wars universe. Bungie promises a cinematic expansion filled with new characters, story arcs, and mechanics, while preserving the essence of Destiny storytelling.

“It’s a Destiny story at heart, but with a Star Wars-inspired take that’s been a dream for us to explore,” said Justin Truman, Destiny Vice President.
Core Game Revamp: Accessible, Customizable, and Evolving
Alongside the expansion, Bungie is rolling out transformative core game updates—all free to players:

- The Portal: A reimagined activity selection interface
- Solo Ops: Designed for solo players with bite-sized gameplay
- 50 New Modifiers: Enhance and tailor gameplay to your style
- Armor Revamp: Stat system rework, set bonuses, and full-energy gear at drop
This shift ensures a more rewarding experience regardless of playstyle—solo adventurers, fireteams, and competitive players alike.
Event Kickoff: Rite of the Nine Now Live
Marking the beginning of The Fate Saga, the Rite of the Nine event is now active in Destiny 2. This prologue event revisits iconic dungeons—Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep—infused with Nine-themed visuals and loot.
