What's happening at BTR *17*

No, I do the most simplest thing of all. Why complicate benching? The built-in benchmark is totally awesome (contrary to what Steve believes).

I just know how to make its results 100% repeatable

I am feeling better - but I don't want to press my luck. I heading to my chiropractor tomorrow early. So I better go to bed now early (11 PM). I'll check back in early in the AM.
BFG10K made a good suggestion on the Ars forums today actually - rip SLI and 3dvision support out of the geforce drivers and cleanup some dead driver bloat. I wholeheartedly agree with him. SLI support could be an extra installable package for those who actually want it for some reason.

It might be an interesting thing to explore later - but doubtful and probably a huge waste of time. Why doesn't he do it instead of post irresponsibly about it? I think he still knows how to benchmark.

BFG has a lot of very strange ideas and he holds much resentment against Nvidia. He should buy a Radeon and then talk about what he considers to be driver bloat. I no longer take him seriously. And he is way behind the times. 3DVision is not supported any longer by Nvidia. If anyone wants that legacy driver, they have to D/L an old driver.

SLI support is very limited to 2 current cards, and in the future, for 1 card. There is no driver bloat there.
Here are great analysis of the LCAT (end-to-end latency measurement) and PCAT (Power measurement) tools that BTR was privileged to receive (as one of 5 or 6 tech sites). Unfortunately, I am even more ill and completely unable to concentrate, so this will have to do.

Once I feel better (probably after the launch), I will give a very detailed analysis of these tools and they will be an integral part of BTR's testing and benching from now on. I will specialize in latency measurements of displays and video cards - and video games. I really wanted to be apart of this, but it simply isn't possible.

However, I am continuing to benchmark. I can just manage that.

Also, I cannot even post here or on Reddit ... so I will just check in and attempt to answer any questions that I can. Sorry

Notice anything odd about the card's logo?

Quote:the logo on the card is slightly different from the box logo as the “8” on the card appears to be upside-down as a rare typo, or perhaps it is intentional as the symbol ∞ (infinity) rotated 90 degrees left.
You think it's intentional?
Biggrin
It could simply be how 8 is rendered in that particular typeface. There is no shortage of fonts out there that do horrible things to characters.
No reply from Nvidia yet .... maybe it is intentional but they use the same font on the box - and the 8 is right side up.
Probably just a typo then.

Interesting video out from DigitalFoundry regarding XBOX Series S. They have known about it since they did their XBOX Series X piece back in March and they got to see the console back then. Interestingly Austin Evans went along to that event too and it sounds like Series S wasn't shown to him.

That's a pretty big typo if so - right on the card. Maybe this first edition of the 3080 will have extra value as a limited edition.

It's pretty powerful for a console. Are you planning to get one, or the new PS5?
I will get a PS5, personally. Everything on XBOX you will be able to get on PC anyway, most PS5 stuff will only be PS5 and Series S has no optical drive, so no buying 2nd hand games or selling ones you no longer want.
